Two of Fianna Fáil's candidates for Dublin in the European Parliament elections have said they will not contest the next general election if they are elected on June 11th.

Sitting TD, Mr Eoin Ryan, and the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mr Royston Brady, said they "formally pledged" not to contest the general election if they win seats in Europe.

In a statement, they said the same pledge should be given by all candidates standing in the Dublin constituency to the citizens of the capital.

Mr Brady is not running for re-election to Dublin City Council.

A recent Irish Times/TNS mrbi poll showed Mr Brady with 18 per cent support and Mr Ryan with 13 per cent support.
