Both Jason Ryan and Colm Bonnar have been given the go ahead by the country board to lead the Wexford football and hurling teams, respectively, into the 2010 season.

Football boss Ryan is back for a third year at the helm after a tough season this year, while Bonnar is to embark on his second.

Things don’t look like they will be much easier for Ryan this year, with the news that veteran duo Philip Wallace and Paddy Colfer have retired from the intercounty scene, while doubts remain over the availability of Matty Forde and PJ Banville, who are both hampered by long-term injuries.

Ryan still has Ger Foxe and Pat Barden among his coaching staff, however, and has added Diarmuid O'Hanlon and Kildare man Paul McLaughlin to the backroom team.

Bonnar’s ratification was expected after he drew up his panel for 2010 and omitted the likes of Michael Jacob, David O’Connor and Paul Carley.

“There are a number of players not involved because of College or work commitments, while other players are taking a break," Bonnar said.

"There is one or two who we didn’t invite back into the panel, but we’re not telling those players won’t be part of the 2010 championship squad. I still intend to be in contact with them, letting them know what they need to do and areas they must work on if they want to be invited back in.

“I refuse to say that anybody has been dropped, because it was seen this year that while we were working with a certain bunch of players in January, there were ten new players involved come March, and a number of those players actually went on to play in the championship.”
