A 170 passengers on a Ryanair flight were today forced to disembark when the aircraft left the runway while taxiing before takeoff at Lodz airport in Poland.

The nose wheel of the 737 plane - which was bound for Nottingham in Britain - sank into the stopway surface off the beginning of the runway prior to its takeoff procedure.

The aircraft was not damaged in the incident, Ryanair said, and the passengers were taken from the plane and bussed to the terminal.

The company said it would not be able to comment until the incident had been investigated by the Irish Aviation Authority.

Lodz airport was closed after the incident to allow the aircraft be pulled back onto the runway.
