Ryanair's valentine adverts ruled offensive

An advertisement by Ryanair was today ruled offensive by the British Advertising Standards Authority.

An advertisement by Ryanair was today ruled offensive by the British Advertising Standards Authority.

The airline's adverts, which offered two return flights for £69 under the headlines "Blow Me! (These fares are hard to swallow!) and "Satisfaction Guaranteed!" were considered to cause "serious or widespread offence".

Each advert featured two pairs of feet, one pair on top of the other.

The ruling came after three members of the public complained that the adverts were "sexually suggestive and offensive".

Ryanair said the advertisements were published to coincide with Valentine's Day, which was a celebration of relationships, and were intended to be humorous within that context.

It agreed they were suggestive but denied they were offensive.

The publishers said they did not see the advertisements before they were published but once they became aware of the content they decided not to repeat them.
