Ryanair is to check oxygen masks on all 21 of its Boeing 737 aircraft after complaints about their condition, it was disclosed today.

Some masks were found to contain flaky material and have faulty elastic straps, according to the BBC2 Working LunchTV programme.

Masks should be hands-free but some passengers on a Ryanair flight from Stansted to Prestwick in Scotland had to hold them on after they had appeared because of a decompression problem.

The programme said it had contacted Aer Rianta, which said the problem appeared to affect only the masks over three seats but that the airline should check all Boeing 737 masks.
