RYANAIR’S BAGGAGE charges are about to hit double digits with a new €10 fee for checking in a bag coming into force on May 5th.

This is the company’s second baggage charge increase this year.

Ryanair yesterday made it clear that it would continue to increase the charge to encourage as many passengers as possible to bring carry-on luggage only and until half of all passengers checked in online.

The cost of checking in at the airport rather than online will also increase from May 5th from €4 to €5. Checking in online, without checking in any bags, remains free. Passengers booking before May 5th and those who have booked flights which depart after May 5th will pay the old €9 charge.

A Ryanair spokesman said 40 per cent of passengers used its online check-in service, through which passengers print their own boarding passes and bypass check-in.
