Ryanair is to launch a new daily return route between Knock airport and Gatwick from next January, it has been announced.

Ryanair is to launch a new daily return route between Knock airport and Gatwick from next January, it has been announced.

The new route will open on January 19th and the flights are expected to operate in the mid to late afternoon.

Mr Liam Scollan, chief executive of Knock International Airport, said: "With Europe's two biggest low-cost carriers - Easyjet and Ryanair operating from Knock to Gatwick, the travelling public can be assured of low fares and a wide choice of services to the London area and to Gatwick."

"Furthermore, the position of Gatwick as a major gateway to Europe and the USA will be another strong boost for in-bound tourism to the region through Knock International Airport."

Mr Scollan said Knock airport had experienced a 55 per cent increase in passenger numbers for the first nine months of this year and he was confident the new route will continue to enhance this "very positive trend".
