London - President Saddam Hussein of Iraq is suffering from lymph cancer and has converted one of his palaces into a convalescent home, a newspaper reported yesterday.
Asharq Al-Awsat, a British-based Arabic paper, said the information came from a doctor in Amman, Jordan, who used to treat the Iraqi leader. The doctor allegedly spoke to one of the paper's reporters in Amman but did not want to be identified.
Mohammed Awam, a journalist for Asharq Al-Awsat, said: "Saddam Hussein has transformed one of his palaces to be a hospital and he is being treated there. But we are expecting him to appear on television in two or three days just to show he is all right."
The cancer claim was denied by the Iraqi embassy in London.
