Racing:French raider Sahpresa swooped fast and late to deny hot favourite Ghanaati in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
Rod Collet's filly was sent off at 16-1 to secure a first Group One success and travelled powerfully throughout for Ted Durcan.
Ghanaati, winner of the 1000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes earlier in the season, was sent to the front approaching the final furlong by Richard Hills, but Sahpresa reeled her in to score by a length and a half.
Ghanaati did not move with the zest that was so evident earlier in the campaign and had no answer when the winner swept by.
James Fanshawe's Spacious was well to the fore for much of the contest and although she lacked the finishing kick of the first two, she picked up minor honours in third.
Four-time winner Strawberrydaiquiri was stepping up to Group company for the first time and could only finish fourth.
Durcan said: "That was a nice surprise. She quickened up nicely and loved the (fast) ground. It's a nice result.
"At the end of the year in these mares races you can get strange results and luckily it went our way."
Collet said: "It is my first my Group One race and it is a pleasure to win in England.
"I have only had a couple of runners here before and I only have 30 or 40 horses.
"She is a top filly and the plan is to keep her in training next year."
Charlie Hills, son and assistant to Ghanaati's trainer, Barry, said: "She's been on the go a long time but has done us proud.
"It's not really for me to say, and I shall speak to Sheikh Hamdan (Al Maktoum, owner), to see what happens next."
Fanshawe said: "I thought we were in with a shout at the two furlong pole and she has shown us today that a mile is her trip, although she really wants better ground.
"We'll put her away now and I don't know whether she'll remain in training."
