IRISH FERRIES has cancelled all sailings on its Rosslare to Cherbourg route following a fire on its ferry Oscar Wildeon Tuesday night.
The fire was discovered 40 minutes out to sea after the vessel departed from the AP Shipyard at Falmouth, Cornwall, where it had been in dry dock.
The ship anchored and the crew managed to suppress the fire in the ship’s generator room at about 7.20pm.
A spokesman for Irish Ferries said all sailings on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route will be cancelled until next Wednesday at the earliest. The company said it is in contact with all passengers and freight customers, for whom alternative arrangements are being made.
