The Samaritans yesterday launched an emergency campaign in Britain to help people affected by the foot-and-mouth crisis.
The charity is concerned for people living in isolation in rural communities having to deal with such widespread devastation, it said.
It has decided to scale down its annual fundraising and awareness drive, The Samaritans Week 2001, to concentrate on reaching those most in need of its service.
Its emergency rural stress campaign will run throughout the summer months.
