Lagos - On Monday the remains of the Nigerian writer and environmental activist, Kenule Beeson Wiwa - better known outside Nigeria as Ken Saro-Wiwa - will be buried in his home village of Bane in Ogoniland, on Nigeria's southeastern coast, writes Mary Russell.

The interment brings to a close a week of activities celebrating the life of a man who, though not without his critics and his enemies, has, since his death, become an inspiration for those peoples of the Niger Delta still engaged in a struggle to rescue their land from degradation by oil companies, among them the giant Royal Dutch Shell.
