A schoolgirl received head injuries when a satellite dish being used for survey work fell on her, the Circuit Civil Court has been told. However, the lawyer representing her yesterday was granted a delay in the hearing of the case for Dublin Corporation to be joined in the action.
It was stated that the company, which carried out a survey relating to the sewerage system for Dublin Corporation, had no public liability insurance. The satellite dish used in the survey work was mounted on a 10-ft tripod on the footpath.
Mr Rory MacCabe, counsel for Ms Marie Kierenan (16), told Judge Liam Devally in the Circuit Civil Court yesterday that the action had been listed for the purpose of assessing damages.
Mr MacCabe said counsel had appeared for Location Surveys Ltd, Mullamore, Tallanstown, Dundalk, and informed him that his clients, who did not turn up in court, were not insured. He said that in the interests of Ms Kierenan, of Glenealy Road, Crumlin, he considered yesterday's notice for trial should be struck out to afford him time to join Dublin Corporation as a defendant in the action. Judge Devally agreed and said the court could not permit the interests of a minor being put at risk.
