Italian coach Nevio Scala has expressed his interest in taking over as Scotland boss after "preliminary contact" with the Scottish Football Association.

The former Parma and Borussia Dortmund coach won three European trophies with the Italian side and also guided the Germans to several triumphs.

Scala becomes the latest name to be linked as a replacement for Craig Brown along with Terry Venables, Bruce Rioch, Roy Hodgson, Phillipe Troussier and Berti Vogts.

"I have had preliminary contact with the Scottish Football Association and I am obviously very flattered and very interested," said Scala.
