EDUCATE Together, the umbrella body for multi denominational schools, has warned it will have to close its office and lay off staff unless the Minister for Education agrees to provide additional funding.

The chairwoman, Ms Jill Steer, said the organisation was in a serious financial crisis. She described the Department's annual grant of £2,000 as "insulting". She said the Government was giving no help to multi denominational education and the rights of parents were being "trampled upon".

There are 14 multi denominational schools at primary level, compared to 3,200 Catholic and Protestant schools.
