Irish Rail have agreed to pay €23,500 damages to a schoolgirl who broke two of her front teeth when she fell on a footbridge at a DART station.

Counsel for Alice Jones (13), Mr Vincent Scallan, told the Circuit Civil Court yesterday she tripped on a bolt which had been standing proud above the surface of a pedestrian bridge at Sandycove Rail Station.

He told Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Desmond Smyth, that Alice, of Summerhill Road, Glasthule, Co Dublin, was only 10 at the time and was walking home from school when the accident happened.

Mr Scallan said Alice had fallen down the steps on the bridge, striking and fracturing her two front teeth. She would require ongoing dental treatment and numerous appointments to test the vitality of the teeth which had been temporarily restored.
