A total of 100 schools around Ireland have responded to an appeal from the organisation CAIT (Celts and American Indians Together), which was established to remember the donation of aid by the Choctaw Indians during the Great Famine.

Schools all over Ireland have received a letter from Gary White Deer, an Indian artist, asking them to join with CAIT to raise £1.7 million for poverty relief projects all over the world by December next year. The appeal has been endorsed by several Irish celebrities, including Boyzone, Mary Black, Phil Coulter and Luka Bloom.
