The leaders of Britain, France and Germany will meet in Berlin on Saturday to discuss Iraq's future, it was announced today.

It is understood German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, French President Jacques Chirac and British Prime Minister Tony Blair will attempt to establish a joint position at the talks after their divisions over the war in Iraq.

"It will be a chance for wide-ranging discussions on international affairs. . . . Obviously Iraq will be discussed," Mr Blair's spokesman said. He added that Mr Blair had invited Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar to Britain for talks on Sunday.

The German government said in a statement: "The meeting serves to agree to common positions in foreign policy after there were divergent opinions in the run-up to the Iraq war."
