F1: Ferrari's Michael Schumacher secured pole position for the US Grand Prix last night to end world champion Fernando Alonso's run of five in a row.
Schumacher, four times a winner at Indianapolis since Formula One returned to America in 2000, secured his 67th pole position in style with Ferrari sweeping the front row of the starting grid.
The German's Brazilian team mate Felipe Massa was second quickest.
Renault's Alonso, who leads Schumacher by 25 points at the halfway point in the championship but has yet to finish a US Grand Prix, qualified fifth.
The Spaniard's Italian team mate Giancarlo Fisichella was third fastest with Honda's Brazilian Rubens Barrichello alongside in fourth.
Schumacher won last year's race at Indianapolis after it turned into a six-car farce with the withdrawal of the Michelin-equipped teams due to tyre safety concerns.
