A two-year-old Scottish boy was killed today by a ricocheting bullet fired during a fight at a Turkish resort, a news report said.
Alastair Grimasson was hit in his chest as he slept in his pram near his mother in a cafe in the Aegean tourist resort of Foca, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The gunfire started after two men in the cafe argued and one of them pulled a gun. A 29-year old man was killed while two others were shot in the waist, Anatolia reported.
The British Consulate in Izmir confirmed Alistair's death, but would not give any further details.
The boy underwent an operation in a local hospital but could not be saved, Anatolia said.
Anatolia said Alistair was from Scotland, but there was no information on his hometown. Foca is some 30 miles north of the city of Izmir. Police in Foca could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, in Cyprus two Scottish tourists drowned in rough seas in front of their two terrified children.
British consular officials and police identified the victims as Mr Peter Rainey (49) and his wife Alison (41) from Scotland.
Police said the mother and her young son Callum (9) were paddling a flimsy inflatable dinghy when the boat capsized 100 metres from shore off the coastal resort of Paphos, about 120 km west of the capital Nicosia.
"Her husband rushed to the boat to stabilise it but it overturned again," a police spokesman said. "Bystanders managed to get to them but only the little boy survived."
The couple's other child, a seven year old daughter, was watching from the shore. They have no other family in Cyprus.
