A Northern Ireland Assembly member whose home has been attacked for the second time this week today said he wouldn’t give into what he termed Loyalist fascists.

A bullet-proof window at the home of Mr Danny O'Connor, a member of the SDLP, was shattered by a brick as he slept last night. No-one was injured.

It is the second time in a week that the house in Larne, Co Antrim, where Mr O'Connor lives with his parents, has been targeted.

But the MLA insisted the loyalist paramilitaries he believes are behind the intimidation campaign won't stop him from standing in the forthcoming local council elections.

"They are trying to send a message out to people that no taigs are allowed to stand for council," he claimed.

"But there's no way we are going to lie down and give in to them. I'm not going to roll over under the jackboot of the UFF.''

Mr O'Connor's home has been targeted repeatedly in recent years and was attacked with a brick on Monday.

He stressed, however, his family were not suffering alone.

"It's not just us, other Catholics have been attacked this week," he said.

"This town is riddled with racketeering and paramilitarism."
