'It is a little known fact that cats live at the bottom of the sea." So begins this gem of a book for younger children by Angela Carter.
Sea-cat's resourceful mother makes a stunning house out of old driftwood and a cat suit out of skeins of seaweed "wool". A suit like no other which makes Sea-cat glitter like "flowers in the rain" and shine like "a wet star" and which the Dragon King covets so much that he kidnaps the little fellow. But Sea-cat's mother saves the day in a practical and life-affirming manner - she's a credit to mothers everywhere! Beautifully crafted, lyrical writing lifts this gentle story into a higher realm, which sparkles and gleams just like Sea-cat's suit. The quirky, black and white line drawings by Eva Tatcheva, are full of character and give the tale extra zip. An excellent read-aloud book for bedtime.
