MR Marc Dutroux, the convicted child rapist at the centre of a suspected international paedophile ring, has admitted burying missing teenagers, Ms An Marchal and Ms Eeje Lambrecks, as well as other children at one of his homes, the daily Le Soir said yesterday.

The property in Jumet, near Charleroi, south of Brussels, has been the focus of an intensive police search for the two girls abducted a year ago.

The paper, quoting judicial sources, said Mr Dutroux (40) was taken to the house on Monday night and showed police where he had buried the bodies of Ms Marchal (17) and Ms Lambrecks (19). They were abducted near Ostend in August last year.

The paper said that another five young girls are reported to be buried at the house.

Ten people have so far been detained following the arrest of Mr Dutroux on August 13th and the discovery of two eight-year-old girls buried in the garden of another of his properties at Sars-la-Buissiere, also near Charleroi.

Another two girls, Sabine Dardenne and Laetitia Delhez, allegedly abducted and sexually abused by Mr Dutroux were found alive in a windowless dungeon in another of his homes.

Police officers yesterday continued to comb Mr Dutroux's various houses, using sophisticated sonar to detect hollows in the soil.

Mr Dutroux, who was granted a conditional release in 1992 after serving three years of a 13-year sentence, has not yet found a lawyer willing to defend him, it was reported yesterday.

Investigations are also continuing in Bratislava, where Slovakian police probing links to Mr Dutroux have questioned 10 girls who had contacts with him.

Mr Dutroux visited Slovakia a number of times and some 10 young Slovak women went to Belgium at his invitation, Bratislavan police said yesterday.

However, they have difficulty remembering what happened there, perhaps because of drugs, and are unsure whether they were filmed for pornography, Mr Rudolf Gajdos, head of the Slovak office of Interpol said.

Mr Dutroux's last visit to Slovakia was reported to have been as recently as July.

Slovak police are also co-operating with Belgium in the search for Ms Marchal and Ms Lambrecks.
