Search for fisherman ends

The search has been called off for a missing fisherman who fell overboard from a trawler on Wednesday night. The accident happened when the Co Galway-based vessel, Caroline Anne, was fishing 28 miles west of Loop Head, in Co Clare.

The man, who was named yesterday as Mr Nick Berill (22) from Slane Road in Dunleer, Co Louth, fell overboard at about 9.30 p.m.

A massive air and sea search got under way and an Irish Marine Emergency Service (IMES) helicopter from Shannon was called out. The search was called off late on Wednesday and resumed at first light yesterday, but ended without success after what an IMES spokesman described as a very thorough search of the area.
