Ms Collins disappeared on the night of December 4th, 2000, in the seaside village of Killala. She visited a shop in the village at 7.45pm that night, and was last seen at a takeaway on George’s Street at 11pm.

In a potential breakthrough in the case some weeks ago, the presence of a white van in the vicinity of George’s Street between 11pm and midnight was confirmed to gardaí.

This week's arrests are the first in the case since a renewed appeal for information was issued last December on the 10th anniversary of Ms Collins’s disappearance.

Gardaí have repeated their appeal for anybody with information the case to come forward.
