An 85-year-old man who was tied up by robbers who then ransacked his house had already suffered a similar assault within the past year. The man was being treated for shock in the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk yesterday.

Gardai said the man lives alone in a detached cottage at Killencoole, Readypenny, Louth village, and was on his own when two men entered the cottage at around 9.45 p.m. on Saturday. They confronted him in the kitchen, tied his legs together and then tied him to an armchair before ransacking the house. They escaped on foot with a sum of money. The man managed to free himself and went to a neighbour's house.
