British police searching the former home of a man charged with murdering a schoolgirl discovered a second body today.

The remains were found at the house where handyman Peter Tobin once lived in Margate, Kent.

Police discovered the body of Vicky Hamilton (15)  in the garden of the property on Monday but they continued the search for another missing teenager, Dinah McNicol.

Detective Superintendent Tim Wills from Essex Police said postmortem tests will now be carried out on the remains.

"There has been a significant development at the site in Margate. Further human remains have been discovered," an Essex Police spokeswoman said. The McNicol family have been informed but there is no indication at this stage of the identity of the remains."

Tobin (61), appeared at Linlithgow Sheriff Court yesterday charged with Miss Hamilton's  murder. She disappeared 16 years ago in Bathgate, West Lothian, close to where  Tobin was living at the time.

Miss McNicol disappeared in 1991 after attending a Hampshire music festival.

Police are investigating whether Tobin is linked to a series of other unsolved murders and abductions of women. Earlier this year, he was jailed for life at the High Court in Edinburgh for the rape and murder of Polish student Angelika Kluk, whose body he attempted to conceal in a Glasgow church.
