Two students at Coláiste Bhríde in Rannafast have tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

Yesterday, five students staying in the same house at the college were sent home after displaying flu-like symptoms and it was decided then to send the remaining nine students at the house back home to prevent the spread of the virus.

Following the positive results on two students today, the college is to close tomorrow and the remaining 275 students will be sent home.

The closure of Coláiste Bhríde follows the temporary closure of Coláiste Mhuire at Loughanure.

Coláiste Mhuire closed at the weekend after 11 cases were confirmed and a further 140 students showed symptoms. School principal Donal O’Neill said the college expects to reopen on Saturday for the return for the final week of their course of almost 300 students.

Yesterday afternoon two students were sent home from another school, Coláiste Machaire Rabhartaigh, near Gortahork, which has two weeks of classes still to run. Test results from the college are expected later today.
