Gardaí yesterday arrested a second man for questioning in regard to their investigation about the supply of cocaine to a group of people attending a 21st birthday party in Waterford which resulted in two men being on life-support machines in hospital in the city.

A 25-year-old man arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident will be brought before Waterford District Court today in relation to the same incident after being detained in Tramore Garda station.

Officers arrested the second man, a 19-year-old youth yesterday morning for questioning about the same incident. He is being detained under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act at Waterford Garda station.

Also, as part of a general investigation into the activities of a number of drug dealers in Waterford, officers arrested two men in their late 20s in the Meadowbank Estate off the Cork Road and brought them to Waterford Garda station for questioning.

The two young men who fell ill at the house party in the Ballybeg area of the city last Sunday morning remain in a coma and in a critical condition at Waterford Regional Hospital in Ardkeen.

John Grey (23), from Ballybeg, and Kevin Doyle (21), from the Viewmount estate, are on life-support machines in the intensive-care unit. A third man who was also treated at the hospital after falling ill at the party was discharged from hospital yesterday.

The men became ill at a birthday party which took place in the family home of Mr Grey's mother, Betty.
