A second man has died as a result of a single- vehicle crash in Westmeath at the weekend. Lee Scally (29), a member of the Defence Forces from Mullingar, is believed to have been driving the car, which crashed into a ditch near Mullingar at noon on Saturday.
Mr Scally died at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar yesterday afternoon.
Quentin Reilly (19), who was a rear-seat passenger in the car, died the same day of injuries sustained in the crash. He is due to be buried following a funeral Mass in Mullingar today. A third occupant of the car survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Westmeath County Council chairman Johnny Penrose said people were “very, very saddened” by the deaths.
