THE FUNERAL of the second teenager who died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in a holiday apartment in Co Derry last week has taken place in his native Newtownabbey in Co Antrim.

Aaron Davidson died alongside his lifelong friend Neil McFerran (both 18) in an apartment overlooking the Atlantic in the holiday village of Castlerock, Co Derry.

They were on a short break before their exam results were due to be released this month.

Another friend, Matthew Gaw (also 18), was with the two friends in the modern apartment complex at Tunnel Brae Court when they were overcome by the suspected leak of the deadly gas.

He has been released from hospital in Coleraine, Co Derry where he was treated after the incident.

He was among hundreds of mourners who attended the funeral service at the Church of Ireland Church of the Ascension in Cloughfern parish yesterday.

Camera crews and reporters were asked to stay away from the church as the simple coffin holding Aaron’s remains was brought in for the funeral service.

The service was conducted by the Rev David Lockhart and the Rev David Henry of First Lurgan Presbyterian Church, who is a family friend, was also in attendance.

Present with Aaron’s immediate family and relatives were relatives of Neil McFerran.

His funeral took place on Saturday at the nearby Newtownabbey Methodist Mission.

The busy road near the church came to a standstill as the cortege left the church grounds, with members of the Davidson family overcome with grief.

Aaron’s remains were buried a short time later in nearby Carnmoney Cemetery, where Neil McFerran’s remains were also interred.
