A man is seriously ill in hospital in County Down after a shooting incident.

The man was shot in the back of the head yesterday as he sat with three others in a van on Bangor’s Shaftsbury Road.

Police said today they are satisfied that there was not sectarian or terrorist motive behind the incident.

The wounded man was treated at Dundonald Hospital near Belfast before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for further treatment.
