Discussions have been held between the Department of the Marine and local authorities in Wexford about securing the site occupied by 400 Travellers for almost a week.
The meeting centred on fencing the site against future encampments.
The cost of the clean-up and provision of security fencing around the seven-acre site is estimated at €50,000, a bill to be footed by the Department of the Marine which owns the property.
The site adjoining Wexford Bridge was occupied by 70 Travelling families - mainly from Limerick, Cork, Northern Ireland and Britain - for almost a week.
The Travellers, some of whom failed to appear in court on charges under the Public Order and Criminal Justice Acts arising from weekend disturbances, vacated the site on Monday.
The property has been identified as a possible new headquarters for the Department of the Environment.
