Sinn Féin and the SDLP have raised concerns about a recent security breach at Castlereagh security centre in Belfast reportedly involving a member of the Royal Irish Regiment who was arrested and then later released without charge.
The PSNI said last night it would be improper to comment about the breach on Sunday night, July 11th, as it was a "live" investigation.
Sinn Féin's Mr Gerry Kelly and the SDLP's Mr Alex Attwood nonetheless voiced their concerns about speculation that a British army/police dossier on paramilitary suspects could have fallen into the hands of loyalist paramilitaries.
One inside source last night said there was no evidence so far to suggest confidential information had been acquired by any paramilitary group.
Mr Attwood is to raise the issue with the PSNI deputy chief constable, Mr Paul Leighton, today while Mr Kelly will query the North's security minister, Mr Ian Pearson, about the matter tomorrow.
In March 2002 Castlereagh was the centre of another major security breach with allegations that the IRA was involved in a break-in and counter claims that it was again an internal breach. No one has been convicted in relation to the alleged 2002 break-in.
