A Dunnes Stores security man was caught with a stolen bag of money hidden in his trousers, Swords District Court heard.

Bernard Byrne (28), of Abbeywood Crescent, Lucan, denied stealing a register bag containing £1,210.11 from Dunnes Stores, Northside Shopping Centre, Dublin, on December 28th.

The security manager, Mr Barry Smith, said he found the bag hidden in the security office. He set up a hidden camera and next day saw Byrne take the bag from where it was hidden and put it down his trousers.

Judge Sean Delap said that while he could not say Byrne stole the money he intended to convict on a substituted charge of handling it. He remanded Byrne to February 10th for the DPP's consent to the new charge.
