A Finglas man who set his dog on a man after robbing the man's son's mobile phone has had his sentence adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Peter White (22), Casement Drive, Finglas, had pleaded guilty to assault of Brian O'Grady and robbery of Mr O'Grady's son on January 8th, 2005, in Finglas.

Garda Brendan Levy told Damien Colgan, prosecuting, that the boy was walking up Jamestown Road with his friends when White demanded his phone and cycled away with it. Garda Levy said that when Mr O'Grady heard of the incident, he came up to Finglas village to get the phone from White, who handed it over.

After an exchange of words, White told his German shepherd dog to "whoosh on him, Tyson", and the dog lunged at Mr O'Grady, biting him several times before White ordered him to stop. White then cycled off, shouting: "That's what you get for messing with me."

Garda Levy agreed with Gerardine Small, defending, that White had come to the Garda station on his own and had admitted his part in the incident. He said White had drunk five cans of beer that morning and he thought one of his friends had put acid in his drink and he was "out of it" when the incident occurred.

The court heard White is a chronic drug addict with 67 previous convictions. Judge Frank O'Donnell adjourned sentencing until February 27th.
