Pozarevac - One prisoner died of injuries as a Serbian prison revolt spread yesterday with hundreds of inmates rebelling at a jail outside the eastern town of Pozarevac, prison officials said.
It was the third revolt in Serbian prisons in two days.
A Reuters reporter at the scene said she saw smoke rising from inside the Pozarevac prison complex and could hear prisoners shouting demands for an amnesty. An uprising at a prison in the southern city of Nis erupted on Monday evening after inmates at Sremska Mitrovica, in northern Serbia, started a jail revolt overnight on Sunday.
One of the inmates in Nis died in hospital yesterday after falling from a prison roof the previous night, Tanjug news agency said.
