U2’s first ever appearance at Glastonbury is to be broadcast live on Setanta Ireland.

U2’s first ever appearance at Glastonbury is to be broadcast live on Setanta Ireland.

The Glastonbury festival is broadcast by the BBC in the UK, with its commercial wing BBC Worldwide distributing content internationally.

On Friday, BBC Two will begin broadcasting U2's headline set from 10pm, until Newsnight begins at 10.30pm, Coverage of the event will move to BBC4 before switching back to BBC Two shortly after 11pm.

“The band were keen that an Irish broadcaster would show it uninterrupted,” a spokesman for Setanta said.

“We are delighted that U2 have allowed us to bring this live event to an Irish audience, with these channels involved over 1.3 million Irish homes will have access to U2 at Glastonbury.”

The band’s manager, Paul McGuinness, said “U2 fans across Ireland wanted to watch the Glastonbury show. We're fortunate that Setanta and the BBC have agreed to deliver uninterrupted coverage across the country.”
