The week that was at a glance.
Winner
An expedition to West Guinea revealed a "Garden of Eden". The 3,700 square miles of mountainous rainforest found rare birds, more than 20 new species of frog, and several new plant species. The creatures, including "Berlepsch's six-wired bird of paradise" allowed scientists to approach and handle them. Unfortunately, the dodo once did the same.
Loser
Ken Doherty won the Malta Cup only to be kicked off the flight home (along with his opponent, John Higgins). Doherty denied reports he had got drunk and gone "potty", claiming they had been "victimised". Not since Chas & Dave sang Snooker Loopy has the sport been so rock and roll.
