'Unfinished sympathy? I shall compose a letter'
A letter in which Ludwig van Beethoven complained about his poor eyesight and finances has surfaced in Germany as part of a bequest. In the six-page letter, Beethoven asks his fellow composer Franz Stockhausen to help find advance buyers for his Missa SolemnisMass.
“My low salary and my illness demand efforts to make a better fortune,” he wrote in 1827, four years before his death. The letter, valued at more than €100,000, will go on display at the Brahms Institute, in Lübeck, next week.
