Seven people have died in the Republic and the North in weekend road accidents.
An 18-year-old local man has been released without charge from Monaghan Garda barracks after being questioned in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident. Ms Emma Markey (16), from Braddox, Co Monaghan, died instantly after being hit by a car at Tully Corbet near Ballybay, at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday.
The man was arrested and a car impounded at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. He was released at 8.30 p.m. A file on the case has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The teenager will be buried at Tully Corbet cemetery at 11 a.m. today.
In Co Longford, Mr John Martin (56), died early yesterday when the vehicle in which he was a passenger was in collision with another car, at Clonard, Ballymahon. The accident happened on the N55 at about 1.45 a.m. "in bad foggy conditions", according to the Garda.
Five people died in road accidents in the North over the weekend. Mr John Nellis from Greencastle, Co Tyrone, was hit by a car on the Greencastle Road near Omagh on Saturday night.
Early yesterday, an 18-year old woman, who has not yet been named, died when the car in which she was a front-seat passenger was involved in an accident on the Magherafelt Road in Draperstown, Co Derry, on Friday night.
Two 18-year old men were also killed in separate incidents. One was a motorcylist who was involved in an accident on the Ballynahinch to Newcastle Road at Drumaness, Co Down, on Saturday.
The Police Ombudsman, Ms Nuala O'Loan, is to investigate the death of the teenager who was hit by a police car on the Antrim Road in north Belfast on Saturday. Police said Ms O'Loan had been called in as a matter of routine.
On the Bushmills Road , near Portrush, Co Antrim, a 25-year-old man died following a road accident just before midnight on Friday.
