A three-year-old girl was the seventh person to die in weekend road accidents, after the car in which was travelling collided with another vehicle in Co Clare yesterday.
The crash happened at Clarecastle, near Ennis, at about 4 p.m.
On Saturday in Co Wicklow, a man was killed when his car left the road at Kilbride, near Wicklow town, at about 4.30 a.m.
He was named by gardaí yesterday as Mr Thomas Byrne (21), of Barrandarrig, Co Wicklow.
In Co Laois a 19-year-old woman was killed when the car in which she was a passenger was involved in a two-car collision at Ballybrittas on the Dublin to Cork road, at about 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The young woman was named as Ms Shauna Quinn, from Castledawson, Co Derry.
At about 2 p.m. on Saturday Mr Aidan Doran (22), of Murrinstown, Co Wexford, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a lorry at Ballymitty, Co Wexford.
At 7.10 p.m. on Saturday two women died in a four-car pile up near Milford, Co Donegal. Five others were injured in the crash and are being treated in Letterkenny General Hospital.
The two who died had been passengers in separate cars. One of the women, in her mid-20s, came from the Milford area, while the other, aged 39, was from Derry.
The accident happened near the old Milford bakery in the town.Gardaí in Donegal have appealed for witnesses to the accident.
In Co Tipperary Seamus Cummins (69) was killed at about 8.45 p.m. on Saturday when his car struck a ditch at Fethard, near Clonmel. A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said yesterday afternoon that no road deaths were reported in the North during the weekend.
The Garda Press Office said a total of 295 people were killed on the Republic's roads between the start of the year and Saturday night.
A spokesman said comparative figures for the year to Friday night showed 289 people had been killed on the Republic's roads, compared to 287 the previous year.
