It was a "shattering experience" when the Criminal Assets Bureau took everything from his house, the former assistant Dublin city and county manager told the tribunal.

Mr Pat Hanratty SC, for the tribunal, asked Mr George Redmond about entries in a 1988 diary which contained references to appointments with Mr James Gogarty.

Mr Redmond said: "They took everything, lots of old stuff I hadn't looked at in years."

Mr Hanratty said this diary was included among the documents taken by CAB.

Mr Redmond said: "Everything that I had was taken out of my house, everything, it's a shattering experience, but the position I'm in now and I'm in a unique position with the tribunal, that they have everything that was in my house by way of documentation." He said: "I was trying to put my accounts together when all the documentation was seized." Asked when he could supply other diaries, Mr Redmond replied: "I said I'll deal with it. As you know I'm under a lot of pressure at the moment. I'm here all the time and I have my own stresses too."
