Striker Alan Shearer has signed a new one-year deal with Newcastle.
Newcastle failed to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League and are second from bottom in the Premiership without a win in five matches.
Shearer's new deal will give the club a welcome boost and the 33-year-old Newcastle skipper told the Sun: "I am delighted it is signed for another year after this one and I am looking forward to getting the season back on track."
"We may not be back to our flowing football just yet but we were certainly better at the weekend than in the most recent games at home against Partizan Belgrade and Birmingham.
"Everyone knows this is my club. They therefore will know what it means to me and the rest of the lads to get things rolling again."
