Alan Shearer has extended his contract with Newcastle United until the end of the 2004-05 season, according to reports this afternoon.
The 33-year-old striker had been linked with a move away from Tyneside when his contract ended at the close of this season, however it has now emerged that he has signed for an extra year at St James' Park.
Newcastle manager Bobby Robson is expected to confirm the news at his weekly press conference later today, BBC Online has stated.
Shearer joined Newcastle from Blackburn for stg£15m in 1996.
