Alan Shearer scored twice to help Newcastle secure the point they needed for Champions League qualification with a 2-2 Premiership draw against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Newcastle - who cannot be caught by Chelsea now - will join Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in the competition next season.

All four goals were scored by players appearing against their former clubs with former Blackburn forward Shearer twice levelling after one-time Newcastle favourites Keith Gillespie and Andy Cole had scored for Blackburn.

Meanwhile Fulham, who had announced a massive Stg£23.3million loss ended the day on a happier note by securing their Premiership survival with a 3-0 win over fellow strugglers Bolton.
