A fire destroyed sheds belonging to prominent republican Thomas "Slab" Murphy on the Louth/Armagh Border yesterday.
The fire spread to two sheds, located a few metres north of the Border, and was tackled by fire crews from both North and South. One shed contained hay, the other a workshop which contained gas cylinders and engineering equipment.
According to the Garda, some gas cylinders exploded and a jeep in the farmyard was also destroyed. Hay was reported to be still smouldering last night, but the situation was under control. No one was reported injured.
The farm was one of 15 properties searched in a joint Garda/PSNI cross-Border operation into alleged smuggling last March.
It was reported at the time that Mr Murphy left his home just minutes before the Garda and PSNI search teams arrived.
