Anglo-Dutch oil firm Royal Dutch/Shell Group has announced the retirement of its fuel refining and marketing supremo Mr Paul Skinner today.

It has also elevated two other directors to its top executive board.

Mr Skinner (58) was once tipped for the top job of chairman, taken on by Mr Phil Watts last year.

Finance director Ms Judy Boynton and top US executive Mr Rob Routs will join the top Committee of Managing Directors (CMD), which combines the top executives from the two arms of the company - Shell in Britain and Royal Dutch based in The Netherlands.

After the retirement of Mr Skinner and the appointment of these two, the number of executives on the CMD will rise from five to six.
