Teddy Sheringham, on the look-out for a new job after being told he is surplus to requirements by Tottenham, yesterday spent the day playing in a pro-am at the Belfry alongside Colin Montgomerie.
The former England striker will be out of contract at the end of the season and the White Hart Lane club said they would not be offering him a new deal.
The 37-year-old released a statement through his management company, in which he admits he is "disappointed" by Tottenham's decision but reveals he will make a decision on his next move shortly.
Sheringham is about to complete his second spell at the north London club - the team he has supported since his childhood - and will bow out in Sunday's game at home to Blackburn.
Spurs boss Hoddle paid tribute to Sheringham on the club's official website, saying: "Teddy has performed a great service for us, not just on the field, but by setting such a superb example for our younger players.
"He has also just completed another marvellous season for the club and we wish him well in the future".
The news of Sheringham's impending departure was greeted with derision by former White Hart Lane favourite Neil Ruddock.
The former Spurs defender told The Sun: "As far as I'm concerned, letting Sheringham go is a sign of the times at White Hart Lane. While it might look good for the books, it is a very poor investment in the future of the kids.
"Over at Arsenal, they have just kept on goalkeeper David Seaman - who is pushing 40 - because they want to harness his talent in bringing on youngsters in future years at Highbury.
"Sheringham is the ideal person for the younger players to turn to at White Hart Lane because he commands total respect from every quarter of the game".
"Not many like Ted come through. He won 51 international caps, fans admire him, coaching and management staff admire him and young players admire him because of his attitude.
