Irish showjumping selectors will meet in Kill, Co Kildare, this morning in a bid to agree terms for Robert Splaine's contract as chef d'equipe of the senior team. It is not known whether Taylor Vard, who resigned as chairman of the selection committee last Friday, will be at the meeting.

Charles Hanley, national chairman of the Showjumping Association of Ireland, will be in attendance and is expected to step in as acting chairman if Mr Vard does not appear.

"I've spoken to Taylor today, and he may still be there," Mr Hanley told The Irish Times yesterday. "We're working on getting the Robert Splaine situation sorted." Mr Splaine was nominated for the post of chef d'equipe on October 24th, but the terms of the contract have still not been agreed.

Mr Vard walked out of a follow-up meeting of selectors in Tullamore last Thursday, and tendered his resignation the following day, saying he would only stay on as chairman if three members of the committee resigned.
